The real issue is not related to whether or not you need to buy a old car insurance.  You do need to purchase liability insurance.  The point of purchasing insurance for damage resulting from an accident to your old vehicle is the real question that should be asked.  Your temperament to risk tolerance and your ability to go in your pocket for inexpensive repairs will solidify the final answer.
